Frequently Asked Questions

Where is Big Rock Dude Ranch located?
We’re located in the foothills of Pigeon Forge, TN (about 2 miles off the main strip, in the mountains)

Do I need experience to ride?
No. Our trail rides are guided and beginner-friendly. We’ll match you with a suitable horse and go over basics before the ride.

What are your hours and season dates?
We operate year-round, 7 days per week. Holiday hours may vary, as well as cold or wet weather. Please call ahead in those instances.

Do I need a reservation?
Sorry, we do not accept reservations. Walk-ins are first come first serve, so we encourage you to arrive earlier in the day to avoid wait times.

How much does it cost?
Ride pricing can be found here. We offer several online deals and specials to save you money!

How early should I arrive?
We encourage you to arrive earlier in the day if possible, to avoid wait times. You will need to sign a ride waiver and watch a short video prior to your ride.

How long are the rides?
Our standard ride is approximately one hour. It is a real mountain trail ride, up and down the mountain; so actual ride times may vary.

What will we see on the trail?
Scenic Smoky Mountain foothills, creeks, wooded paths, and tree-lined mountain views. Wildlife sightings are possible but not guaranteed.

Are rides guided?
Yes. All rides are led by experienced trail guides focused on safety and a smooth pace for all riders.

What is the age requirement?
 Minimum riding age is 4.

Is there a weight limit?
For horse safety and rider comfort, we do have a weight requirement. We do have larger horses available for big boys, subject to availability at check-in.

Is there a weight/height requirement?
Yes, but it varies. Basically, we need to make sure your legs are long enough to hold your bodyweight upright on the horse. If you should be denied, please know that it is strictly for your safety. You are welcome to call ahead and describe your circumstance if you are concerned.

Can two people ride the same horse?
For safety, we do not allow double riding. Each rider must have their own horse.

What should I wear?
Closed-toe shoes with a heel (boots or sturdy sneakers), long pants, and weather-appropriate layers. We recommend sunscreen and bug spray.

Do you provide helmets?
Yes. Safety helmets are available for all guests upon request.

Can I ride if I’m pregnant or have a medical condition?
For safety reasons, we do not recommend riding if you’re pregnant or have conditions affected by riding. Please consult your doctor and review our waiver.

Are there weight/height checks at check-in?
Yes. To protect horse welfare, we may verify rider weight and fitness. Riders must be able to mount/dismount with minimal assistance and follow guide instructions.

Do you allow cameras or phones on the ride?
For safety, handheld devices are not allowed. We do offer photo options here at the ranch.

Can we bring our own tack or helmets?
Personal helmets certified for equestrian use are welcome. For consistency and safety, we use our ranch tack.

Do you offer kid-friendly options?
Yes. We offer gem-mining, a playground, fishing, and a petting zoo for everyone to enjoy.

Can we ride as a family or group?
Absolutely. We accommodate families, corporate groups, and reunions. You may want to call ahead for a large group.

Is parking available for cars, RVs, or buses?

Do you have restrooms and a gift shop?

How fast do the rides go?
Our standard rides are walk-only to ensure safety for mixed-experience groups and varying terrain.

What should I do if I’m nervous?
Tell your guide before mounting. We’ll pair you with a calm horse, review basics, and position you near the guide for extra support.
